Yahoo buys Overture in US$1.63bil deal

LOS ANGELES: Internet media company Yahoo! Inc is buying online advertising pioneer Overture Services Inc for US$1.63bil in cash and stock to strengthen its ad business and ward off a growing challenge from search engine Google. 

Yahoo, which derived about 14% of its 2002 net revenue from its partnership with Overture, said the deal would make it the largest global player in Net advertising.
