MALAYSIA will be issuing a global sovereign bond in the second half of the year, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Dr Jamaludin Jarjis, who also hinted strongly that the debt issue could be in the form of an Islamic bond or sukuk.

Jamaludin told reporters after the opening of the 2003 RHB Investor Forum in Putrajaya yesterday that the debt issue would enable Malaysia to benchmark its ratings and was not intended purely as a fund-raising exercise.
