SINGAPORE’s economy, hit by the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak, is likely to shrink in the second quarter but may still escape recession this year, said Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.
The city-state has brought SARS under control, but the economy has been hit hard as travellers stay away and locals curb shopping and eating out.
