Malaysia's manufacturing sector brushed aside the impact of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak to record an unexpected rise in the April output, helping the industrial production index (IPI) for the month to surge by 11.8% year-on-year.
In contrast with the regional trend, the pace of industrial production growth for April was the fastest since December 2000, when the IPI gained 13.8% year-on-year.
