UNITED Malaysian Medical Industries Sdn Bhd (UMMI), a distributor of medical equipment and products, expects to achieve sales of RM1mil from Medi compression stockings this year.

The company said in a statement that Medi Bayreuth of Germany had awarded it the sole local distributorship for these stockings, which are medically proven as an effective means of prevention against venous diseases by supporting the veins and exerting gentle compression for regular venous return. UMMI began introducing the range in Malaysia early this year.

UMMI has appointed two pharmacy chains, Prima Health Pharmacy and Caring Pharmacy, as stockists for the product in this market.

UMMI managing director Saiful Ong Abdullah said his company made the appointments as these pharmacy chains displayed strong entrepreneurial spirit with the willingness to work with distributors and suppliers on a long-term basis.

“Through their combined network of some 31 pharmacy branches, this product is now available peninsula-wide and we are also able to educate the public on the problems caused by venous diseases, besides explaining how Medi compression stockings can alleviate the problems caused by varicose veins,” Saiful said.

The statement said Medi Bayreuth was now the market leader for compression stockings in Europe and America.
