Annika effect has few ripples

WILL Annika Sorenstam be golf's Billie Jean King? The golf business can only hope so.

Thirty years after King squared off on the tennis court against Bobby Riggs and ignited a boom in women’s tennis, the Swedish superstar stepped onto the course on Thursday to play against the men at the Colonial tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. And while there's no shortage of publicity, there is little evidence that Sorenstam's quest is prompting women to spend more on golf-related products.
