WASHINGTON: The US Treasury and Federal Reserve Board have unveiled the design for a revamped and more colourful US$20 bill, as the country attempts to stay ahead of ever more sophisticated counterfeiters.
The planned redesign was announced last year. The redesigned US$20 bill, the most commonly used denomination, will be the first to go into circulation, possibly as soon as October. Other large denominations, including the US$50 and US$100 bills, are expected to follow in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Updates for the design of the US$10 and US$5 bills are also being looked at.
