Oracle China, Red Flag offer Oracle products on Linux system

BEIJING: Oracle Corp subsidiary Oracle China said it and Red Flag Software Co have entered into a strategic alliance to offer Oracle products on a Linux operating system with full technical support in China.

Linux is one of the fastest growing platforms in the world, particularly in China. According to International Data Corp (IDC), the Linux relational database market is projected to grow to approximately US$5.1bil by 2006.

Thus far the companies have completed certification of Oracle9i Database on the Red Flag Linux operating system and are now working together on certification of the remainder of Oracle's product line.

“The Chinese government is encouraging organisations and enterprises to adopt Linux because of its cost effectiveness and superior performance,” said Oracle China managing director Andrew Hu. – AFX
