LOCAL banks have maintained that they have fulfilled their responsibility in lending to certain groups, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and have been meeting their lending targets for SMEs in the past few years.
Association of Banks Malaysia chairman Dr Rozali Mohamed Ali said figures showed that lending to SMEs accounted for 30% of total loans granted last year, while the number of loans amounting to less than RM100,000 went up by 18%.
