SHANGHAI: China Merchants Bank, the biggest of four mainland-listed banks, reported yesterday a 65% year-on-year surge in net profit for the first quarter, thanks to a boom in its deposits and lending businesses.
In a statement posted on the web site of the Shanghai stock exchange, the bank said its net earnings jumped to 555.87 million yuan (US$67.15mil) for the first three months of 2003.
