SCOTT & English Electronics Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor for LG Electronics Inc's consumer electronic products in Malaysia, is targeting to sell 100,000 LG washing machines this year, compared with 70,000 sold in 2002, according to its general manager T.S. Lim.
We also want to increase our market share for washing machines in the country to 30% by the end of the year from the current 22%, he said at the launching of LG Turbodrum I-Sensor range of washing machines yesterday.
Lim said of the targeted 100,000 units, some 60% would be from LG Turbodrum I-Sensor series.
The LG Turbodrum I-Sensor series has seven sensors, which is three more than the industry standard. The state-of-theart machine has the ability to monitor and compensate for water hardness, amount of detergent and temperature.
It also has eight wash programmes, he said.
Lim said some 1,000 units of the new model would be available next week at all its authorised dealers in the country.
The LG Turbodrum I-Sensor series is priced between RM940 and RM2,140 each unit.
Lim said for the 2004 fiscal year, the company was targeting to achieve RM300mil in revenue, compared with RM221mil posted for the 2003 fiscal year ended in March.
The sales of LG refrigerators, washing machines, and air-conditioners should spearhead the company's 2004 earnings, he added.
Lim said Scott & English was now focusing on enlarging its market share of LG's audio and video equipment such as television sets and DVD players.
Despite the economic slowdown in the past few years, we have been able to perform well because of our aggressive marketing strategies, competitive pricing, networking and efficient after-sales service.
For example, we spent about RM15mil on advertisement and promotional activities yearly, he added.
Lim said the company planned to increase its authorised dealers in the country to over 1,000 this year from about 800 last year.
