BCM Electronics Corp Sdn Bhd, a homegrown electronics manufacturer, will diversify into the medical field as it offers better profit margins, its president D. Vidya said.
For a start, we will embark on a breast cancer detention device with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), he said after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USM to research and develop (R&D) new electronic products.
USM was represented by its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.
Vidya added that USM would design the device while BCM would develop it, noting that the designing stage would take about 18 to 20 months.
BCM was incorporated on August 1993 following an agreement between Motorola Technology Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Government.
It contract manufactures for multinationals, providing a wide range of electronics manufacturing services from telecommunications to computer industries.
In his speech, Vidya said the company planned to provide own design manufacturing services to customers.
