KUCHING-BASED Umehiko (M) Sdn Bhd has been appointed sole international export agent for Jin Peng Profile Manufacture Co Ltd, one of China's largest producers of unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) window and door frames.
According to Umehiko managing director Andy Kho Kak Hee, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the agency appointment was signed recently.
He said Umehiko was negotiating with Jin Peng to use its modern production facilities to manufacture AHE brand of products, like granite and other building stone materials, for the export markets.
Umehiko, a joint-venture be- tween Kho and UM Corp of Japan, has been exporting its products from production bases in different regions of China to several countries.
The company took part in the China Building International Expo 2003 in Beijing last month.
“At the expo, Umehiko displayed AHE branded granites, natural slate roof tiles, flagstones, aesthetic natural ledgestones from the world's finest quarries, as well as UM branded one-coat for multicolour effects fibre-based and sand-based wall covering materials,'' Kho said during an interview in Kuching.
He said the Umehiko booth attracted keen interest from both Chinese and overseas architects, developers and builders as China in its preparation to host Olym- pics 2008 would be undertaking many multi-billion dollar projects.
Kho said the company expected to appoint distributors among selected Chinese firms for its UM branded wall covering materials soon.
“We are in the final round of negotiations with local authorities in Beijing to supply non-Chinese granite for the restoration and refurbishment of a government building there,'' he said.
