The banking sector is expected to remain competitive this year, with lending interest margins continuing to be under pressure, said Public Bank chairman Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow.
The excess liquidity in the banking system and ongoing disintermediation (raising of funds through the bond market) of bank lending by the capital market further increase the competition among banking groups in the lending business,'' he said in his speech at the company's AGM yesterday.
