HONG KONG: China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd, the country's second largest carrier, has reported an 84% plunge in its 2002 net profit and warned of turbulence ahead.
The Shanghai-based carrier, whose near-term outlook is clouded by the deadly flu-like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus that has frightened travellers into staying at home, posted earnings of 86.37 million yuan (US$10.43mil) for 2002, down from 2001’s 541.7 million yuan.
