SOME 400 businessmen, academicians and professionals from six Asian countries are expected to attend the 6th Asian Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (Gopio) conference in Putrajaya from June 6 to 8.

Gopio Malaysia president Selvarajoo Sundram said the group from Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia would have discussions on business opportunities and smart partnerships.

“The purpose of the forum is to promote better understanding among people of Indian origin in business, culture, academia, travel and the youth among the six nations,” Selvarajoo said recently in Kuala Lumpur.

Selvarajoo said an international Indian Trade Fair would also be held from June 7 to 29 in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, in conjunction with the conference.

He said the conference would provide a conducive environment for local entrepreneurs to identify a framework within which smart partnerships could be pursued with entrepreneurs of the other countries.

“We believe the conference will enhance the economic growth of the countries, with an increase in bilateral trade as well as the growth of the PIO communities,” Selvarajoo said.

He said there would be separate programmes for youth and women from the participating countries.

Selvarajoo said Gopio's past activities had helped increase the movement of People of Indian origin through the numerous conferences, youth exchange programmes, trade fairs and road shows for trade promotions.
