Telekom, Maxis to spend RM8b on 3G

Telekom Malaysia Bhd and UMTS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a unit of Maxis Communication Bhd, are expected to spend a combined RM7.8bil over the next 10 to 15 years to roll out third-generation (3G) services. 

Telekom, which will spend RM4.3bil over 15 years on 3G services, will begin commercial services in four targeted districts in the country by early next year. The districts are central, northern, southern and east Malaysia. Initial trials will begin in July.
