OVER 200,000 chip-based Bankcards have been issued as at December 2002 and more will be issued this year as banks progressively replace their magnetic stripe ATM cards to increase security and better protect consumers’ interests. Meanwhile, more than 4,000 ATMs have also been upgraded to accept the new cards.
Bank Negara said these were some of the measures implemented last year as an ongoing effort to improve the efficiency and security of banking payment and settlement systems.
