NORTH America and many developed countries in Europe are prohibiting the imports of tropical timber under the pretext of promoting good forest management and preventing illegal logging, according to Sarawak Timber Association chairman Datuk Leo Chai.
Saying that these nations had also demanded for certified timber, Chai pointed out that more countries, including even Japan and China, were trying to impose restrictions on the import of uncertified timber.
