KULIM (M) Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary Natural Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd will start producing soap noodle, a by-product from palm oleochemical, by the middle of this year.

According to its chairman Tan Sri Mu-hammad Ali Hashim, who is also the Johor Corp group chief executive officer, the company is now expanding its production facilities.

Soap noodles, which look like edible noodles, is the main ingredient used by soap manufacturers to produce shower soap, beauty soap and hand soap.

“We’re always looking to expand our downstream activities, especially in the manufacture of oleochemicals and its by-products,” Ali said at the launch of SMK Bandar Seri Alam's Kelab Tunas Bistari yesterday.

He said the expansion programme could either be carried out by injecting more money into Natural Oleochemicals or forming a joint venture either with local or foreign partners.

Ali said presently, the company already produced fatty acids, glycerine and esthers widely used by companies involved in the food and beverage, beauty and healthcare products.

He said at present Kulim exported about RM300mil worth of oleochemicals mostly to China, Europe and the US, noting that this would rise in years to come.
