iVest of Mimos Bhd, an Internet security Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions provider, will be packaged as a separate entity under Mimos' restructuring plans, targeted to be completed early this year.

Dr K J John, vice-president of the National ICT Policy/Strategy for Mimos Bhd said it was still too early to disclose how iVest would end up even though the target date for restructuring was near.

“iVest will no longer be under Mimos and the appointed special committee is reviewing the available options,” he told StarBiz after a media briefing on “MyKad PKI for unlimited e-services” in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Mimos chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Ariff Araff said all required paperwork had been submitted to the special committee and the management was currently waiting for the go ahead.

On a different note, Datuk Azizan Ayob, director-general of the National Registration Department (NRD) told reporters that to date, about 700,000 of the 3.5 million MyKad issued so far were PKI-enabled.

He said the NRD was targeting for about 5 million MyKad to be PKI-enabled by 2005.
