Pensonic Holdings Bhd has made the first move towards its goal of becoming the first Asean home electrical appliance brand by venturing into Vietnam with the recent appointment of Asia Dragon Vietnam Co Ltd as distributor for its products in the country.

The company also planned to expand to Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Kuwait, Egypt and Lebanon, its managing director Dixon Chew said in a statement.

“Vietnam’s 80 million population will be our focus and it is one of the fastest growing economies in the Asean region,” he said.

Chew said the appointment of Asia Dragon, sealed with the signing of an agreement in Ho Chi Minh City late last year, had a larger significance than just an agreement between the two companies as it also symbolised the increasing cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam.

He added that the company was also responding to the government’s call to play a role in propelling the nation’s economy to new levels “and we would like to be the first Asean home electrical appliance brand.”
