CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Farmers in Australia's drought-ravaged Outback are having one of their worst ever years, the nation's chief agricultural forecaster said Tuesday.
Executive director of the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE), Brian Fisher, said the lack of rain had led to a poor winter crop on top of a seriously depleted summer crop, meaning that not only grain farmers but also livestock ranchers - who need the grain to feed their animals - are suffering.
