AMALGAMATED Metal Builders (M) Sdn Bhd (AMB), which specialises in engineering and steel fabrication for oil and gas industries, has secured a RM120mil contract from the Defence Ministry to build tactical bridging system.

The contract also includes works on military vehicle refurbishment and a spares programme.

According to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, AMB was awarded the contract as its tender was the most competitive.

“It is a joint venture with British company Vickers Defence System. Fabrication will be done here in AMB while technology will be from Vickers,” said Najib after witnessing the presentation of ISO9001: 2000 certification to AMB in Gebeng, Kuantan.

He also witnessed the flag-off delivery of an ethane absorber unit manufactured by AMB for Petronas Gas Kerteh project.

Najib said he was proud of the achievements of AMB, being the only bumiputra company with interests in this field.

AMB had so far managed to attract giant companies in the country such as Petroliam Nasional Bhd; and it had also received orders from other countries, he said.
