Index futures set to congest


Last Close (Jan 17): 677.4 points, up 32.8 points from a week ago. Week’s high: 683.9 points: Week’s low: 647.3 points. 

The Malaysia Derivatives Exchange (MDEX) KLCI futures prices soared on aggressive short-covering and speculative buying boosted by the bullish influence of the newly established Valuecap fund and bullish developments in the cash KLCI. The January 2003 futures advanced from a week's low of 647.3 to 683.9 points and settled sharply higher at 677.4, up a hefty 32.8 points from previously. Futures prices' premium over the cash KLCI narrowed to 6.8 from 8.8 points a week ago.
