MALAYSIAN consumers appear to be a most unperturbed lot. More than half of those responding to an Asia-Pacific-wide consumer confidence survey think the world economy will recover in a year's time, come war or global uncertainties.

The attitude of Malaysians contrasts with that of the majority of consumers in the Asia-Pacific, who believe the region's economy, which has been in the doldrums these past six months, will remain mired for another 18 months or more, the latest ACNielsen survey conducted at the end of 2002 noted.
