Southern Bank launches chip-credit card

SOUTHERN Bank Bhd (SBB) has launched a new chip-based credit card based on the Euro MasterCard Visa (EMV) platform, a platform that all chip-based cards worldwide are expected to migrate to by 2006 as it allows for multiple applications to be loaded and provides an extremely high level of security.

Known as the Southern Bank BlueChip MasterCard, it was issued in a tie-up with MasterCard International and is a first in Asia, according to MasterCard International senior vice president and general manager of South-East Asia, Ajay Bhalla.
