KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has awarded the Johor port operatorship for its Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project to Johor Port Bhd (JPB).
In a statement on Tuesday, the national oil company said its subsidiary Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Corp Sdn Bhd held a handover and commencement of operations ceremony for the material offloading facility (MOLF) Teluk Ramunia in Pengerang, Johor.
It said the ceremony is the conclusion of a 4-year port operatorship contract for the MOLF at Teluk Ramunia.
As the port operator, JPB will manage the operations and logistics functions at the MOLF for Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang.
JPB will provide comprehensive services ranging from marine services, manpower, equipment and system to operate and manage the MOLF Teluk Ramunia.
MOLF Teluk Ramunia consists of four berthing facilities with water depth of 5m Chart Datum. It will be utilised to receive an estimated 3 million tonnes of containerised and break bulk cargo. The cargo will be transported to the RAPID project site via the 15km heavy haul road.
RAPID is Petronas’ largest green-field downstream undertaking in Malaysia, and along with its six major associated facilities, forms the Pengerang Integrated Complex.
The associated facilities are the Pengerang Co-generation Plant, Re-gasification Terminal 2, Air Separation Unit, Raw Water Supply Project, the Pengerang Deepwater Terminal 2 as well as central and shared utilities and facilities. PIC is poised for its refinery start-up by early 2019.
