Getting the ‘right sort’ of education

Education, done the right way, opens up your mind to the vast expanse of the universe and the limitless knowledge within it.

Knowledge and growth: If we don’t do anything drastic about our education system soon, chiefly if we don’t ensure our children are educated in the true sense of the word, then we can expect to lose out in the world.

Let’s have a happy first anniversary

it has been an uneven year for Malaysia Baharu, but Malaysians should take pride that in this chaotic violent world today, we were arguably the only developing country that changed governments through the ballot box, without a single drop of blood being shed.

Get your scepticism on

SOMETIMES when I read the horrific toxic messages that go around WhatsApp groups, I have to wonder about my people. Do we enjoy being whipped up into agitation? Do we find reading bad news pleasurable? Is it really blissful to wallow in ignorance? Don’t we mind being manipulated by irresponsible people?

It’s easy to do the right thing

We now have a choice of setting new, better standards or going the same old way that led us to the brink of disaster.

Bold stance: Malaysia finally decided not to emulate Trump in accepting any Saudi excuses for business’ sake and joined the rest of the world in condemningthe heinous murder of Khashoggi. — Reuters

Shaming the shamers

WHEN I was a mere schoolgirl, there was a chant that everyone dreaded. If your skirt managed to get hiked up and your panties showed, or if you had a runny nose and no tissues to wipe it with, you ran the risk of the unsympathetic teasing of your classmates.

Glaring issue: Even the most wrongheaded of our people would never dare to mention child marriage as a national source of pride on foreign TV, as they know only too well that it is actually an embarrassment.

Let’s stop the ‘hatewave’

AROUND the world, climate change is causing heatwaves where people are unused to very warm weather. Back home, due to another type of climate change, we are experiencing a different kind of wave, which I call a hatewave.

Hostile action: There have been endless hate campaigns in Kuala Lumpur and on social media in the name of religion, especially against the LGBT community.
