Vincent Tan mulls taking 7-Eleven, BLand private; to list U Mobile, hotels

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan plans to take private his convenient chain store operator 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd as well as property and hotel business unit Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand).

Separately, Tan revealed that Berjaya Group was close to concluding a deal to sell its Four Seasons Hotel and Hotel Residences Kyoto (Four Seasons Kyoto) in Japan for a profit of between US$350mil and US$400mil.

Malaysian market sentiment turns positive

PETALING JAYA: Starting December on a strong note, shares on Bursa Malaysia rallied yesterday as sentiment turned positive on regional markets after the US and China agreed on a trade war truce. Gains in global oil prices also added to the bullish tone in the local equity market.

Guan Eng: Data is king, not cash

KUALA LUMPUR: Cash is no longer king – data is – in today’s technology-driven world. According to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, it is important for Malaysia to leverage on new technologies in this era of digital economy to advance further economically and socially.

“When you talk about the digital economy, it is all about data... the previous government probably got it wrong when it said ‘Cash is king’,” Lim said.  “Cash is not king; data is king.
