JAKARTA: (Bernama) Indonesia on Wednesday (March 18) assured that international flights will continue amid developments in West Asia, denying earlier reports of a suspension.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the government is committed to maintaining global connectivity and passenger mobility.

"Earlier there was news related to a closure; the government was informed that there would be a suspension of international flights.

"We can convey that the news is not true…The media concerned (has also) made a clarification and withdrawn the report,” he said, according to Antara News Agency.

Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa, in a statement on Tuesday, also refuted the reports that all international flights had been halted due to the situation in West Asia.

Lukman said authorities continue to closely monitor developments affecting international flight operations, while ensuring that passenger handling remains safe, orderly and well-coordinated.

He added that as of March 17, two Qatar Airways aircraft remain stranded in Indonesia - one at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and another at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. - Bernama
