PHNOM PENH: The 4th Cambodia-US Public-Private Sector Dialogue was held to discuss and address the various challenges faced by American investors in Cambodia. During the meeting, representatives of American investors expressed optimism regarding the Kingdom’s investment climate.

The Wednesday (March 11) forum was co-chaired by Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Bridgette L. Walker, chargé d'affaires of the US embassy, and attended by Cambodian officials and US business representatives.

Chanthol took to social media to explain the purpose of the event, noting that it was held to demonstrate the Cambodian government’s commitment to providing an opportunity for American investors operating in Cambodia to raise possible challenges, ensuring that appropriate solutions are found.

He did not provide details of what these challenges may be.

Chanthol said the dialogue will “strengthen and promote economic, trade and investment cooperation to build trust among the American business community, as well as encourage further investment in Cambodia”.

He added that the event reflected a shared commitment to building stronger relations between the government and businesses, as well as enhancing overall cooperation between Cambodia and the US.

It also demonstrates the mature and collaborative spirit that defines their strategic partnership, he continued.

In addition, he outlined an initiative to organise working breakfast meetings with the various international chambers of commerce in Cambodia. This would allow investors to exchange information with the government more frequently and closely, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening Cambodia’s commitment to supporting investors.

“This mechanism will serve as an additional platform to listen to the emerging challenges of investors in the context of rapid global changes, and it will serve as a foundation for drafting agendas for future public-private sector dialogues,” he said.

Walker expressed her pleasure at co-chairing the dialogue, while the US representatives reportedly expressed optimism about having their challenges heard through engaging in an exchange of views.

This was especially true given their past positive experiences of receiving responses and solutions after raising issues during the previous three dialogues, according to Chanthol. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
