JAKARTA (Bernama): Indonesia has secured a commitment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to step up investment as the two countries mark 50 years of diplomatic ties and seek to elevate relations to a more comprehensive strategic partnership.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the commitment followed bilateral talks between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) at Qasr Al Bahr Palace, Abu Dhabi, on Thursday.
"In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, the two heads of state discussed concrete steps to deepen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the UAE, particularly in the investment and economic sectors.
"President MBZ directly conveyed the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to increasing its investment in Indonesia,” he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat’s Media, Press and Information Bureau on Friday.
Teddy noted that the enhancement of cooperation reflects the close and mutually beneficial relationship long established between the two countries.
"Indonesia is viewed as a key strategic partner in Southeast Asia, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and future economic development,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said President Prabowo welcomed the commitment and affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to continue strengthening a conducive and sustainable investment climate.
In addition, he said the Indonesian government is opening broader avenues of collaboration for UAE investors across various national priority sectors.
Teddy emphasised that the meeting further underscored Indonesia-UAE bilateral relations moving toward a more comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership.
"The momentum of the meeting was made even more meaningful as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UAE in 2026.
"Half a century of ties between the two nations is now entering a new phase focused on investment, economic growth, and future partnerships,” he said. -- Bernama
