Two Filipina women jailed for overstaying in Brunei


MANILA: Two Filipina women have been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to overstaying in the country under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17, the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) said.

In the first case, Rosalie Ribano Policarpio, 50, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment and fined BND800. She failed to pay the fine, which was converted into an additional one month’s imprisonment, bringing her total sentence to 11 months. The sentence took effect on Feb 2, 2026.

In a separate case, Nasara Mapasi Penaflor, 41, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment and fined BND800. After failing to settle the fine, she was given an additional one month in jail, bringing her total imprisonment term to six months. Her sentence took effect on Feb 12, 2026.
