Magnitude 5 earthquake strikes Philippines' Ilocos Sur province


BAGUIO CITY: A magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolted the province of Ilocos Sur at 9.36am local time on Monday (Feb 16), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake’s epicenter was located 49km southwest of San Esteban town with a depth of 10km.

Intensity III was felt in Vigan City, while Intensity II was felt in Candon City, Santol, La Union, and Bontoc, Mountain Province, while Intensity I was felt in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, and Aringay, La Union.

Phivolcs reported no damage, but it said aftershocks were expected. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
