BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 26-year-old local man was fined BND42,600 by the Magistrate’s Court in Bandar Seri Begawan on Saturday (Feb 14) after pleading guilty to possessing undeclared cigarettes and vape devices.
Mohammad Syafiq Safwan Mohammad Jafar was charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006 for possession of various types of cigarettes and vape products.
The offence was uncovered on June 25, 2025 at about 10am during an operation conducted by officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) in Bandar Seri Begawan at a house in the RPN Panchor Mengkubau area.
Authorities seized 53 cartons and one packet of assorted cigarettes, along with two vape pods.
The case was heard before Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Abdul Hamid on Feb 14. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined BND42,600, in default 14 months’ imprisonment.
All seized items, including the cigarettes and vape devices, were ordered to be forfeited and handed over to the Government for disposal. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
