JAKARTA: (Bernama) Indonesia’s Mount Marapi, located in West Sumatra Province, erupted on Thursday (Feb 5) evening, sending an ash column as high as 600 metres above the summit.
Volcano Observation Post (PGA) officer Teguh Firmansyah said the eruption occurred at 6.19pm local time, with the ash column observed drifting towards the northeast.
"The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30.2 millimetres and lasted about 34 seconds,” he said, according to Antara News Agency.
Earlier, at 11.27am, the PGA also reported that the volcano had erupted, but the height of the ash column was not observed as it was obscured by clouds. The eruption lasted around 25 seconds, with a maximum amplitude of 25.9 millimetres.
Currently, Mount Marapi remains at Level II (alert) status. - Bernama
