Philippine President recovering from diverticulitis, may skip events

MANILA: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (pic) is showing steady recovery from diverticulitis but may still be absent from the public eye from time to time, Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said on Wednesday (Jan 28).

“The President has recently returned from medical care and is recovering from diverticulitis. His medical team notes his steady progress,” Gomez said in a Viber message to reporters.

He also said, “The President will continue to focus on critical duties, but the Executive Secretary and other Cabinet members who are his alter ego may represent him at some engagements.”

Last Wednesday, Marcos spent the night at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City after experiencing discomfort due to diverticulitis — an inflammation of the diverticula, or small pockets, in the colon.

Since then, Marcos has held only private meetings at Malacañang Palace and has been represented by other officials at public activities he was originally scheduled to attend. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
