Manet calls for unity on border issues, scam crackdowns

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the solidarity of Khmer citizens during the difficult times arising from the recent invasion of Cambodia’s sovereignty. He called for the people to maintain their unity as they work to eliminate social ills, especially online scams.

“At this juncture, it is necessary for us to unite as one with a shared national commitment to strengthen national potential in all sectors and eliminate all social ills that weaken the nation,” he said, in a Jan 13 social media statement.

He noted that the fight against technological fraud crimes is at a crucial point right now, in addition to efforts on other important national priorities.

While the fight against scams was carried out under both the 6th and 7th mandate governments, it has been prioritised by the seventh-mandate administration.

“It is no coincidence, but rather a deliberate effort to fight against this transnational crime which is a shared concern of Cambodia, the region and the world. I want to see participation with commitment and sacrifice for the nation from all relevant actors, especially from Khmer people of all social strata and political leanings, as well as civil servants, local authorities and all relevant forces,” said Manet.

“We must unite as a force of Khmer national solidarity aimed at eliminating all negative issues related to technological fraud crimes, as well as to promote the fine reputation of the Kingdom of Cambodia on the international stage,” he added. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
