USDP secures majority in Phase One of Myanmar’s 2025 polls, winning 89 of 102 seats


YANGON: According to a statement released by the Union Election Commission, in the first phase of the election held on Dec 28, 2025, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won 89 out of 102 Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies.

While the remaining 13 seats were won by the National Unity Party (NUP) and six ethnic political parties.

In the first phase of the election, the 13 Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies won by other parties were as follows:

The National Unity Party won seats in Taungdwingyi and Kyangin townships.

The Pa-O National Organisation (PNO) won in Taunggyi, Hopong, and Loilen townships.

The Naga National Party won in Leshi, Lahe, Nanyun, and Hkamti townships.

The Shan Ni (Tai-Leng) Solidarity Party won in Homalin Township.

The Rakhine Nationalities Party won in Manaung Township.

The Mon Unity Party won in Chaungzon Township.

The Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), also known as the “White Tiger Party,” won in Linkhay Township.

The second phase of the 2025 general election will be held on January 11, 2026, in 100 townships, while the third phase will take place on January 25, 2026, in 63 townships.

The Union Election Commission also announced that in the 163 townships where elections will be held, only one candidate has been nominated in each constituency.

As a result, in 14 uncontested Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies, the USDP has automatically won 13 seats, while the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) have automatically secured one seat. - Eleven Media/ANN
