Largest annual trade fair begins in Bangladesh

DHAKA: The 30th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), the largest annual commercial and trade event in Bangladesh, has started at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BCFEC) in Purbachal on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

Commerce Adviser of the Bangladeshi interim government Sk Bashir Uddin inaugurated the month-long fair Saturday, declaring "Paper and Packaging Products" as the product of the year and highlighting the government's initiative to promote Bangladesh's products in the global market.

He said DITF is both a major annual showcase and a vital launchpad for new ideas and emerging businesses as "it showcases how Bangladesh's economy is growing."

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and the Exhibition Promotion Bureau (EPB), the exhibition showcases a wide range of local and foreign products, including machinery, equipment and materials for agriculture and gardening, carpet, chemical and allied products, cosmetics, dairy products as well as electronics, an official from the EPB said.

More than 300 stalls, pavilions, and mini pavilions have been set up this year at the fair. - Xinhua
