SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES, (Philippines): A local parish in Olongapo City is appealing for help after the image of the Niño Jesus was reported stolen from its Belen (Nativity display) in Immaculate Concepcion Parish in Barangay Barretto.

According to a statement of the Diocese of Iba, the sacred image went missing from the Immaculate Concepcion Parish-Barretto sometime between 9.30am and 11.30am on Saturday (Jan 3).

The incident was discovered later that day, causing concern among parishioners, especially as the image “holds deep religious and cultural significance.”

Church leaders are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity related to the missing image.

They also asked residents to be alert for anyone attempting to sell or display an image matching the description of the stolen Niño Jesus.

“We appeal to the conscience of those involved to return this sacred image to the parish,” a statement from parish representatives said. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
