Ex-president questioned in corruption probe

Impeached former president Yoon Suk-yeol has appeared before a special counsel team to undergo questioning as a suspect for corruption charges involving his wife Kim Keon-hee.

Yoon was questioned at the Seoul office of special counsel Min Joong-ki, who is leading an investigation into corruption allegations involving the former presidential couple.

It marked the first questioning of Yoon for the corruption charges since the independent counsel team’s investigation launched on July 2.

The ruling on Yoon’s wife was set to be delivered on Jan 28 next year. The special counsel sought a 15-year prison term for Kim, who has been held since August.

Yoon was named as an accomplice in charges involving his wife, who received free opinion polls worth 270 million won (RM744,312) and a painting worth 140 million won (RM385,939) as bribes. — Xinhua
