21 Indian workers killed in accident near China border

NEW DELHI: (Bernama) Twenty-one workers from the Indian state of Assam were killed when the truck they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Arunachal Pradesh state.

The accident took place in Chaglagam in the Anjaw district near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, presumably on Monday (Dec 8), but was not reported immediately due to the remoteness of the site.

One survivor informed a military camp about the accident on Wednesday, according to local media reports on Thursday (Dec 11).

The civilian vehicle is believed to have lost control on a mountain road and tumbled over a cliff into the ravine.

The Indian army said on Thursday, "multiple rescue columns have been deployed with medical teams and representatives" from local police and disaster response agencies.

"Despite harsh terrain, all efforts are underway to rescue the individuals," the army's Spear Corps said in a post on the social media platform X. - Bernama
