Hun Sen: Red line drawn; Thai military used F-16 jets to attack Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Hun Sen (pic), president of the Cambodian Senate, has instructed all frontline forces to continue to exercise patience, as the “invaders” have been using all types of weapons to shell Cambodia since yesterday, last night and again this morning.

However, he emphasised that a red line has already been drawn.

In a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 8) morning, he stated that Thailand had shelled Cambodia with the intention of provoking Cambodia to retaliate, which would destroy the ceasefire and the Cambodia-Thailand peace declaration.

“The red line for retaliation has been set. All levels of commanders should educate all officers and soldiers to understand this,” he said.

He instructed authorities at all levels to make efforts to help people evacuating from dangerous areas to safe zones.

“I have cancelled all other work programmes to join the prime minister in commanding the armed forces to counter the invasion,” he wrote.

He also requested understanding from domestic and international guests whom he could not meet at this time. However, he clarified that Cambodian the athletes who are to participate in the SEA Games in Thailand, must participate as usual.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that the Thai military had opened fire on Cambodian territory in several locations Monday morning, using small arms and artillery.
