YANGON: The first-time voter list was released in some areas, with incomplete voter lists, discrepancies in data, and some minor deficiencies, said U Myint Kyaing, Chairman of the Central Committee on Field Census Supervision and Union Minister for Immigration and Population in a meeting held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw on the morning of October 10.

The first-time voter list was released in each township from September 30.

Citizens can check whether their names are included in the voter list or not. The Union Minister said that the relevant officials should effectively encourage the stakeholders to visit the places where the voter list is announced to check whether the information is complete and correct and to fill it in in accordance with the provisions of the Election Law.

In the current approved population list, some departmental employees and those who have migrated for various reasons have not yet entered the household population list of the area where they have moved, so there are gaps and discrepancies in the compilation of the voter list. The Union Minister said that they must fill in the forms specified in the Election Law and include them in the voter list and ensure that there are no discrepancies in the information.

In addition, the relevant committees at all levels must strictly implement the plan to ensure that everyone with the right to vote can obtain a card of some kind. The Union Minister also explained that the field census supervision committee at all levels will scrutinise and verify to ensure that everyone who has the right to vote is included in the voter list and that those who do not have the right to vote are not included.

Before the second voter list is released, the requirements and shortcomings of the first voter list should be systematically scrutinised and approved from the lower township level, the field census supervision committee, and the current population list of 18 years and above should be compiled and submitted to the Central Committee by the specified date.

The Union Minister explained that the Central Committee will submit the approved population list to the Union Election Commission for the second voter list to be compiled and published.

The Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, the Chief Ministers of the regions and states, the committee members and officials discussed the implementation of the decisions of the previous meeting, the difficulties encountered in publishing the first voter list, the status of the work to be done to publish the second voter list correctly and completely, the status of the verification and approval of the approved population list within the specified period, the operational requirements, and the plans to support and cooperate with each department on the operational requirements for the completeness and accuracy of the voter list.

The meeting was attended by U Myint Kyaing, Chairman of the Central Committee on Field Census Supervision and Union Minister for Immigration and Population, U Than Htun Oo, Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Field Census Supervision Committee and Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, U Aung Lwin Oo, member of the Supervision Central Committee and Union Election Commission member, Deputy Minister U Htay Hlaing, officials from ministries, representatives from the Myanmar Women’s Federation, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, and Myanmar Red Cross Society, and the Chief Ministers and representatives from the regional and state field census supervision committees, members of the Central Committee on Field Census Supervision, attended via video conference. - Eleven Media/ANN
