Woman caught after robbing 11-year-old boy of 135 lottery tickets in Vietnam

HANOI (VNExpress): Police in Tay Ninh Province have arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of snatching 135 lottery tickets from an 11-year-old boy and selling them for cash.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen was detained on Oct. 10 for investigation on suspicion of robbery. Authorities said she had been renting a room in Duc Hoa Commune while doing temporary jobs.

Camera footage also revealed Tuyen running away after stealing lottery tickets from the 11-year-old boy in Tay Ninh Province.

At noon on Oct. 7, while riding her motorbike to a local market, Tuyen saw the young boy cycling around to sell lottery tickets. Short on cash, she decided to steal from him.

Tuyen followed the child to a quiet stretch of road, stopped him, and pretended to buy tickets. Holding a bundle of 135 tickets, she pretended to pick one out before suddenly speeding off, ignoring the boy’s cries for help.

She later sold the stolen tickets for a little over VND1 million (US$40) and spent all the money. Police tracked her down three days later. - VNExpress
