Brunei, Philippines reaffirm defence ties

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Visiting Secretary of National Defence of the Philippines Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr made an official visit to the Ministry of Defence Thursday (Oct 9).

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Major General (Rtd) Datuk Paduka Seri Halbi Mohd Yussof.

The visiting secretary received a general salute and inspected the guard of honour comprising personnel from the Royal Brunei Land Forces.

Gilberto C Teodoro, Jr then called on Major General (Rtd) Datuk Paduka Seri Halbi Mohd Yussof.

During the call, both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and longstanding defence cooperation between Brunei and the Philippines, which has been manifested through Joint Defence Working Committee meetings, as well as active exchanges of visits, military exercises, training and courses.

Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Datuk Paduka Seri Muhammad Haszaimi Bol Hassan, members of the Ministry of Defence Executive Committee, Ambassador of the Philippines to Brunei Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio and Undersecretary for Defence Affairs Angelito M. De Leon were also present.

The one-day official visit is part of the secretary’s tour to the region to strengthen defence relations. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
