SINGAPORE: A police sergeant has been charged after he allegedly engaged in a conspiracy with a foreign woman to make a false statement on her work pass application, stating that he would employ her as a domestic worker.
Ahmad Aidil Jumari, 37, is now accused of an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA).
In Myanmar national New Zar Win’s work pass application submitted in or around June 2023, he allegedly stated he would employ her as a domestic worker in his Senja Road Housing Board flat.
However, court documents stated there was allegedly no intention for her to be employed in such a manner.
New Zar Win, 33, also faces a similar charge under the EFMA.
Separately, she is also accused of working as a freelance part-time cleaner in various households without having a valid work pass between December 2023 and September 2024.
In a statement to The Straits Times on Thursday (Oct 2), the police said they removed Ahmad from front-line duties and deployed him to an administrative role after finding out about the Ministry of Manpower’s investigations involving him.
“Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity... We are unable to comment further as court proceedings are ongoing,” a police spokesperson said.
Ahmad’s and New Zar Win’s cases have been adjourned to Oct 21, and she is expected to plead guilty that day. - The Straits Times/ANN
