As one of the most acclaimed Chinese animated films in recent years, “Ne Zha 2” has been launched on October 1 on iQIYI International in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, with a Thai-dubbed version also available.
Picking up from the previous film, thunder destroys the bodies of Ne Zha and Ao Bing. Master Taiyi protects their souls with a seven-colored lotus, awaiting rebirth—just as a new crisis looms over Chentang Pass.
Caught between “rebirth or saving a friend” and “protecting home or stopping disaster,” Ne Zha makes a hard choice—facing formidable foes with his companions while confronting deeper tests of fate within himself. Building on mythic roots, the film blends contemporary storytelling with high-impact action, while keeping its heart on friendship, identity, and self-determination.
After debuting on iQIYI’s Mainland China platform, “Ne Zha 2” quickly surpassed the platform’s 10,000 heat index, becoming the first film to reach this milestone and drawing sustained attention and discussion across age groups.
In both theme and execution, it is more than a mythic adventure: it explores universal ideas of courage, identity, and choice, making the story accessible and moving for audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds, and welcoming to both families and younger viewers. Whether you come for spectacular set pieces or nuanced character emotion, “Ne Zha 2” delivers.
For the record, like its mischievous demigod protagonist, the Chinese animated fantasy film Ne Zha II has been a practically unstoppable force. Since its initial release in China, over Lunar New Year, the blockbuster has earned more than $2 billion worldwide. It’s now the highest-grossing film of 2025, the highest-grossing animated film of all time, and the highest-grossing non-English-language film in history.
It has been reported that Chinese audiences, who are responsible for most of the film’s ticket sales so far, and the movie has no challengers on the worldwide box office this year.
Disney's "Lilo and Stitch" is the only movie this year that has tallied more than US$1 billion at the box office, but even its total worldwide numbers are nowhere close to the Chinese runaway animation hit.
